Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of medical professionals who care for anemic and surgical patients and administrators who are interested in improving patient outcomes while reducing healthcare costs. SABM is a multi-disciplinary organization, and meeting attendance includes a wide variety of medical specialties, comparable to the composition of our membership.

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Describe the essential structural and measurable elements constituting a comprehensive hospital based Patient Blood Management program
  • Utilize the most current and evidence based interventions for managing anemia across the life span
  • Explain current status of Patient Blood Management initiatives with military, governmental and regulatory agencies
  • Define available applications of non-invasive monitoring of hemoglobin and implications in patient care
  • Differentiate causes and treatment modalities for patients with coagulation issues
  • Implement vital Patient Blood Management Strategies in the critically ill adult and pediatric cardiac patients
