Members / Mentors
The SABM Annual Meeting is a great opportunity for SABM members to meet one another and share stories, challenges & successes, and more. Likewise, it’s also an exciting time for the Mentorship Program—we get to witness Mentees and Mentors, who have worked together over the past year, meeting face to face, and we also welcome a new group of Mentees & Mentors to the fold!
Since the fall, the Mentorship Program has worked to match SABM members together in these new Mentoring partnerships—the aim is to provide support and encouragement, to share information about SABM’s resources and member benefits, and to spur the growth of networking/collaboration within the PBM community.
Be a Mentor! It may not seem like an email or phone call every month or so could make such a difference in growth to a colleague new to PBM or BMS, but it does…and you might be surprised at how rewarding the experience is for you, too.
If you’ve been a past Mentee, why not consider being a Mentor? Many of our past Mentees are reaching out to share what they’ve learned and ‘pay-forward’ the support they’ve received—you can make a difference in continuing to grow the PBM community.

McLaren Greater Lansing is a part of a 10-hospital system with a diverse patient population. The system embraced PBM several years ago, working toward the goals of more restrictive transfusion and single unit RBC transfusions in non-hemorrhaging patients. I became a SABM member, attended the Annual Meeting in 2016, participated in the Certificate Course and joined the Mentorship Program. Being a part of the mentorship program with SABM has helped guide me in troubleshooting cases as well as how to implement change within my facility. Currently I have a physician interested in moving toward pre-operative anemia management and my SABM mentor has helped provide a roadmap. The benefit of having a SABM mentor as a resource of information and support has been so valuable. I would strongly recommend participation in this program. Growing together in PBM is important for us as care providers and for our patients.
